During her 5th birthday, Jade Dimaguiba discovers from her mother Zeny that her father passed away when she was young.Zeny fabricated a story about meeting her father in China where she was an English teacher and how he got killed in a freak accident and how she lost her brother Yuan in a miscarriage. Amor, Zeny’s mother, says she should stop telling Jade lies and admit that they were abandoned by Chen Sy, her ex-husband, when she chose to return to Manila after his family almost gave Jade up for adoption. Zeny hides the truth knowing it would hurt Jade. One day though, a man arrives at their door and reveals he is Chen, her father. Zeny thought he was going to take away Jade but he was looking for his son Yuan. Zeny was angry and drove Chen away, not even telling him the truth. Jade was devastated for her father didn’t want her and wishes Yuan was the one who lived instead.
